Tryptych summits Ama Dablam – Pustelnik & team on to Annapurna.

The acclimatization stage of the mBank Annapurna West Face Expedition (Himalayan Tryptych Reactivated) has been completed. All members of the team reached the summit of Ama Dablam (6812 metres above the sea level).

Piotr Morawski and Peter Hamor summitted on the 3rd of April, while Piotr Pustelnik and Darek Zaluski reached the summit the following day (4th April).

The climbers will now be transported by helicopter to their base camp beneath the north face of Annapurna (8091 m) and an attempt at a first ever repeat of the Czech route on the north-west face of the peak. For Piotr Pustelnik this will also be a chance to finish his last of his 14, 8000ers.

Despite being one of the lowest eight-thousanders, Annapurna is definitely one of the most dangerous mountains in the world. By the year 2005, only 103 people had reached its summit while 56 have died attempting it.

The Annapurna massif consists of six main summits: the main one (8091m) as well as five others rising over 7000m. Interestingly, it was the first eight-thousander ever climbed – by Maurice Herzog and Louise Lachenal on 3rd June 1950. Eight Polish mountaineers have repeated this feat so far:

1987 – Artur Hajzer & Jerzy Kukuczka (first winter ascent)
1991 – Bogdan Stefko, Krzysztof Wielicki, Wanda Rutkiewicz, Ryszard Pawlowski and Mariusz Sprutta
1996 – Andrzej Marciniak

The mBank Expeditions

The mBank Expeditions have already tried to reach the summit three times, including twice (in 2004 and 2005) along the Bonnington’s route on the south face.

In 2006, the “Himalayan Triptych” made up of Piotr Pustelnik, Piotr Morawski (Poland), Peter Hamor (Slovakia) and Don Bowie (USA) focused their efforts on the eastern ridge of Annapurna that had been climbed merely twice before. However, Peter Hamor was the only one to reach the main summit on 21st May while Piotr Pustelnik and Piotr Morawski got as far as the eastern summit (8010m). They turned back to rescue a Tibetan climber afflicted by snow blindness.

This year Piotr Pustelnik decided to return to Annapurna with a tried-and-tested team consisting of himself as the main coordinator, Peter Hamor, Piotr Morawski and Dariusz Zaluski, who will have the double role of a film maker.

Piotr Pustelnik has been climbing in the highest mountains since 1985, ascended all but one eight-thousand-meter high peak and has participated in many expeditions in the Himalayas, Karakoram, and all over the world.

Peter Hamor, the best Slovakian mountaineer has ascended five eight-thousanders (two of them as the first ever Slovak).

Piotr Morawski has climbed four eight-thousanders and was the first to ascend Shisha Pangma in winter.

Dariusz Zaluski has climbed four eight-thousanders and has taken part in many winter expeditions; he combines climbing with professional film-making and has authored many award-winning documentaries about the highest mountains of the world.

Dzień 23

Po wejściu na Ama Dablam 8 kwietnia członkowie wyprawy dotarli do Lukli, skąd zamierzają szybko przedostać się do Kathmandu.

Zamkną w ten sposób pierwszy etap wyprawy, czyli przygotowanie aklimatyzacyjne przed jej celem głównym – Annapurną.

Dzień 18/19 Ama Dablam – zdobyta.

Wstępny, aklimatyzacyjny etap wyprawy został zrealizowany. Członkowie wyprawy Tryptyk Reaktywacja mBank Annapurna West Face Expedition weszli na szczyt Ama Dablam (6812 m n.p.m.). 3 kwietnia na wierzchołku stanęli: Piotr Morawski i Peter Hamor, 4 kwietnia: Piotr Pustelnik i Dariusz Załuski.

Obecnie uczestnicy wyprawy przemieszczają się w kierunku bazy pod Annapurną, aby rozpocząć realizację głównego zadania.

Dzień 15

Członkowie wyprawy, po dwudniowym odpoczynku w bazie, osiągnęli 31 marca ponownie obóz II. Wyjście to miało na celu doposażenie tego obozu i przygotowanie do kolejnego etapu, jakim jest założenie obozu III. Himalaiści konsekwentnie realizują plan zdobycia aklimatyzacji na Ama Dablam przed głównym celem wyprawy, jakim jest Annapurna…

Dzień 11

26 marca członkowie wyprawy założyli obóz I na wysokości 5700 m, a 27 kontynuowali pracę, co zaowocowało założeniem obozu II na wysokości 6100 m. Za dwa dni ekipa planuje założyć obóz III…

Dzień 9

Członkowie wyprawy dotarli już pod Ama Dablam. Najbliższy ich cel to wyjście w góry i założenie obozu I. Na Ama Dablam planują uzyskać aklimatyzację przed głównym celem wyprawy – Annapurną.

Dzień 5

Członkowie wyprawy doleciali do Lukli, a stamtąd po dwóch godzinach marszu dotarli do Phakding (2610 m n.p.m.). Jest to duże osiedle położone w połowie drogi pomiędzy lądowiskiem w Lukli a Namche Bazar. Jest to miejsce na nocleg, ponieważ następny dzień polega na pokonaniu niezwykle męczącego, ponad trzygodzinnego podejścia do stolicy obwodu Khumbu.
Pogoda, nastroje i samopoczucie uczestników bardzo dobre.

Dzień 3

Z informacji przekazanym drogą sms-ową wynika, że cała ekipa wylądowała 17 marca w Kathmandu. Podróż przebiegała z niemałymi przygodami.

Na lotnisku w Delhi okazało się, że ktoś wyrwał z zestawów biletowych Piotra Morawskiego i Dariusza Załuskiego bilety na przelot do Kathmandu, co spowodowało uszczuplenie zawartości ich kieszeni o całe 400 $. Na koniec dnia w miłej i kulturalnej knajpce ktoś ukradł Piotrowi Morawskiemu sandały…
18 marca członkowie wyprawy mieli odbyć obowiązkowe spotkanie w Ministerstwie Turystyki.
