Simone & Co. are already posting pics and videos from GII. On Nanga Parbat, Polish dark horses Tomasz and Marek have set up BC.
A Polish secret on Nanga Parbat
Polish climbers Tomasz Mackiewicz and Marek Klonowski landed in Pakistan on New Year’s Day and reached Nanga Parbat Base Camp, Asghard Ali Porik of Jasmine reported. “The Poles are outfitted by a new agency called Pakistan Adventure,” he added.
Update from GII
The GII team flew from Skardu to a local military base. “The soldiers were very efficient and helpful. We talked a lot about our shared passion — working with helicopters,” said Simone, who obtained his pilot license two years ago. The acclimatization climb on Khosar Gang — officially 6,400 meters but actually about 6,100 meters according to Simone — ended just below summit when Cory reportedly came to be at risk due to serious frostbite high up.
Currently, Simone, Denis and Cory are making themselves comfortable at GII Base Camp the best they can for now. Temperatures keep plummeting to -30ºC at night and constant fog and sleet are not helping. Next, they will have to find a route through the broken Gasherbrum glacier until they reach the peak’s base.
